THE WHO

Shelby N. Chaney is a native Detroiter based in Chicago. She launched Still We R.I.S.E., LLC in 2020 to follow her passion for mediating racial tensions with a specialization in Black and Brown dynamics. In her work, she centers Black history, culture, and identity because of the belief that if the most marginalized are centered then everyone in society will be able to rise.

She has a bachelor's degree in International Studies and Spanish from the University of Michigan and a master's degree in Social Service Administration with a certificate in Global Social Development and Practice from the University of Chicago. In her graduate program, she focused her research on anti-Blackness in the Latine community. She has spent a significant amount of time in places like Brazil and Colombia and has traveled to other Latin American countries as well. Shelby utilizes her well-rounded education and various travel experiences to influence the way in which she connects with the communities she serves.

She actively partners with various Chicago organizations in order to bring workshops, trainings, programming, and curriculum to both youth and adults. Shelby hopes to expand her reach across state and country borders, especially with the ease of connectivity in today's virtual times. She focuses on sustainable practices to ensure that the work towards a more equitable future can continue in the schools and organizations that she partners with.
